Integrated Pest Management

ipm_invasive_loosestrife.jpgThe Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program and the conservation crew was established in 2004 to assist with the management of natural lands under Parks and Recreation jurisdiction.

The primary focus of the crew is to control noxious weeds that threaten native plant communities, as described in the pdf Colorado Noxious Weed Act 153.90 Kb.

The IPM management plan for parks is designed to follow the city's IPM goals and to incorporate new strategies and lessons learned during the previous years.

Management techniques to treat noxious weeds

• Mechanical - Physical removal of plant species
• Chemical - Use of herbicides
• Cultural - Establish desired plant species
• Biological - Releasing natural enemies of the plant
