Children, Youth & Families

The Division of Children, Youth and Families (CYF) is one of four divisions within the City of Boulder Department of Housing and Human Services. The Division was created in 1994 through the merger of the Children's Services, Youth Services, Family Resource School programs and the Mediation Service. The Division provides a range of comprehensive services for families with children from birth throughout adolescence.

The services and programs provided by the Children, Youth and Families Division have evolved over the years to meet changing community needs and local and national circumstances. Throughout these changes the primary purpose and mission of the Division has not substantially changed:

Through coordinated community collaboration and planning, the Children, Youth and Families Division is dedicated to creating a healthy community by delivering high quality services, community education, and advocacy which assists children, youth and families in developing long term capacity to be healthy, self reliant, and successful.

Although each program within CYF offers a unique set of services, there are a few key features they share in common:

Provide education and access to the public through resource and referral to community programs and services which can provide direct, specialized or in-depth services.

Respond to community needs through the provision of direct services when other entities in the community do not have the capacity to do so.

Work in partnership with other community agencies and institutions to better integrate and coordinate services for families, and make them more accessible.

All programs within the CYF Division operate from a "strengths-based" perspective rather than "deficit"perspective with a focus on building family strengths.

Analyze community needs and recommend the development of "family friendly" public policy.

The Children, Youth and Families Division offers the following programs and services:

• Children's Services (Assistance finding child care, paying for child care, or becoming a licensed provider)
• Family Resource Schools (Capacity building for elementary student families)
• Mediation Programs (Non-judicial conflict resolution)
• Prevention and Intervention Program (Support for middle and high school students and their families)
• Youth Opportunities Program (Leadership and grant-making program for city youth)
