In order to provide public safety, service and professionalism, the Boulder Police Department allows and gives officers and supervisors the authority to perform off-duty police work. Off-duty officers and supervisors are responsible for enforcing only municipal ordinances and state and federal statutes. They will not be responsible for enforcing rules of the establishment or other venue.

To hire an officer, please complete a request form for off-duty services. Please include the following in your request:

  • Type of the event
  • Requested duties
  • Date, time and location of assignment
  • Number of people expected at the event
  • The number of officers and supervisors required will be determined based on information provided.

Our goal is to help you provide a safe, enjoyable event.

Cost

This information is provided as a guidline when making your request. All fees lister are subject to change. Please contact the Off-duty Coordinator for any questions.

The charges for an off-duty officer, supervisor and patrol vehicle are as follows:

  • Off-duty officer - $48 per hour
  • Off-duty supervisor - $60 per hour
  • Patrol vehicle (by request) - $25 per day
  • There is a minimum of 3 paid hours per assignment, which must be paid in advance
  • A 10% administrative fee of the total amount due will be assessed if there is less than one week notice for an off-duty request
  • Cancellation of the off-duty contract with less than 72-hour notice will result in an administrative fee of 10% of the total amount due.

Reasons for denial

The police department reviews each request on an individual basis. Off-duty employment requests can be denied based on any of the following:

  • Date
  • Time
  • Location
  • Number of attendees
  • Alcohol sales and/or consumption permits
  • Type of event
  • Event history
  • Availability of officers
  • Other reasons deemed appropriate by the Chief of Police
