The Bomb Squad is a specialized unit of officers who are trained and equipped to respond to render safe and then investigate incidents that involve suspicious packages, explosives, pyrotechnics and ammunition.  The Bomb Squad also assists the SWAT team with explosive entries into buildings and other structures.

The squad works with the community, educating community members in handling bomb threats, establishing search and evacuation procedures, and other areas of concern.  The squad is equipped with a robot, x-ray units, protective clothing and other specialized equipment.

The Bomb Squad was formed in 1967 and is one of more than 450 such units in the nation.  The squad is trained and certified by the Federal Bureau of Investgation Hazardous Devices School.  All four members of Boulder's squad belong to the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators, which has more than 4,600 members around the world.
