Project Purpose

The Broadway (Pine-Iris) Reconstruction Project will reconstruct Broadway from Pine Street to Iris Avenue. The existing pavement is deteriorating and very badly rutted and there is a significant roadway cross slope problem (up to eight percent and the standard is 1.5-2 percent). This project implements the goals of the TMP which strive for maintaining a multi-modal system in a safe and well-maintained condition. The funding for this $9.8 million construction project is a combination of city, state and federal transportation dollars. The Broadway (Pine-Iris) Reconstruction Project will result in a major city street in good maintenance condition for the next 30 years and create a continuation of street and aesthetic improvements on Broadway that began in the late 1990s with the southern section of Broadway in the university area and in 2003 with the downtown area.

The major improvements include:

  • Reconstruct the street into concrete.
  • Reconstruct public and private utilities, including major storm sewer improvements.
  • Reconstruct deteriorated sidewalk and make other sidewalk improvements where budget and space allows.
  • Minor urban design, transit stop enhancements and landscaping where budget allows.
