The Boulder Police Department Training Section sponsors a Citizens' Police Academy once each year.  The academy acquaints community members with many of the issues, philosophies and methodologies of law enforcement and the police department.  The academy curriculum is similar to that taught to police officers and taught by many of the same instructors.  The Citizens' Police Academy meets for three hours each week for twelve weeks (all times are in the evening).

To date, more than 460 people, varying in age from 18 to 80, have gone through the academy.  Many of those graduates have gone on to become volunteers in different facets of law enforcement.
