About Us
ClimateSmart on the Road - Drive LessThe city has excellent alternative transportation resources. Our bike path system is nationally-recognized and our bus service is the most robust in the region. Every mile you walk, bike or take the bus you avoid a pound of CO2 emissions. Below is a list of the alternative transportation options you have available to you and links to more information. GO Boulder is the city department that has all the answers your alternative transportation questions! Biking: With over 330 miles of paths in Boulder and over a 1000 throughout the county, you've got options. If you're in Boulder, go to GO Bike Boulder to map a route. Register on the site and you could win some cool prizes. Community Cycles is a nonprofit that is dedicated to helping Boulder residents increase bike use and enjoyment. They offer affordable bikes, maintenance workshops and all the resources you need to get on your bike more often. Imagine how liberating your life would be if you could get out of your car, onto your bike and bring your kids shopping in a trailer or on a bike of their own! Taking the Bus: If you've never taken the bus, it's really simple. Walk to the bus stop, wait for the next bus, ask the driver if it goes where you need to go, step on and pay or flash your EcoPass . Then sit, read, listen to music or day dream; basically don't worry about traffic, gas or parking. Get off where you need to, thank the driver for his/her help and walk to where you're going. Use schedules to find a route that takes you where you're going. If you want to bring your bike on the bus, Walk: Take the dog, take the kids, take your music player and walk to where you're going. Walking is great low-impact excercise and is the #1 way to see your neighborhood, get ideas about landscaping, say hello to your neighbors and get a real sense of the distances we drive everyday. Carpool: "Fill your seats before you fill your tank!" There are local carpool services that make it easy to find a ride. Try out skicarpool.org to find a ride to the slopes. Car Share: Why own a car, when you can share one and spend much less on insurance, maintenance and operation. Boulder CarShare is a nonprofit that does just that; they provide cars for members to reserve and use. It's easy to get a membership and start using cars. By sharing an economical, efficient car and keeping one more car off the road you can reduce your carbon footprint.
