Fleet

Vehicles:

The city organization has a long-standing commitment to reducing equipment and vehicular emissions associated with city operations.  The Fleet Policy Advisory Board has established a 65 percent alternative fuel vehicle purchase protocol.  Currently, 36 percent of the city fleet are alternative fuel vehicles; 197 of the city's 504 vehicles.

Fuel:

Fleet Services maintains a supply of fuel at the city fleet facility.  Along with gasoline and diesel fuels, the city has biodiesel, E85 ethanol and compressed propane on-site.  The one compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle fuels at the CNG station at 30th and Baseline.  In 2006, 13 percent of city vehicle fuel use was alternative fuels.

VMT:

The city has also established a vehicle miles traveled budget, which essentially calls for a zero increase in miles driven yearly.  City departments have done an excellent job, coming in below budget consistently.

Achieving the greenhouse gas reduction goal:

In 2006, city fleet greenhouse gas emissions were 2,848 metric tons of CO2.  The Kyoto goal for 2012 is 2,913, meaning that fleet services has already met its greenhouse gas reduction goal.  The policies and practices described here have contributed to that achievement.
