Construction of a new neighborhood park at Dakota Blvd. and 5th St.
Impacts: Park site access restrictions during construction
Dates: Fall 2008 - December 2009
The Parks and Recreation Department is building a new neighborhood park at Dakota Blvd. & 5th St. Creation of a park in the Dakota Ridge area is a goal of the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation's current Master Plan, adopted in December 2006.
UPDATE
Construction work on Dakota Ridge park that was suspended in late May resumed on July 16, 2009.
Work was suspended after an engineering inspection of the park's concrete improvements identified contract compliance issues. The project contractor has agreed to remove, recycle and re-pour all walkways indicated in the inspection report at no additional cost to the city.
We anticipate that the construction will be completed in early November. When construction is finished, the park will be closed for an additional 30 days for lawn and plant material establishment.
The park opening celebration is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 6. More details will be posted when they are available.
For additional information, please contact the project manager, Mike Lamb at 303-413-7225.
Project Improvements:
• Shade shelters
• Quiet areas with benches
• Trees, shrubs, native grass areas and open turf play areas
• Concrete walks - loop path
• Playground area with swings
• Climbing structures
• Small scooter course
• Small climbing boulder

Broadway (Pine-Iris) Reconstruction Project staging area at North Boulder Park
Impacts: Potential noise from equipment movement; access restrictions to 100'x100' area of park west of 9th Street at Balsam Avenue; temporary damage to staging area turf (with complete restoration at completion of project).
Dates: March 2009 - Summer 2010 (depending upon project needs/completion)
The Broadway Reconstruction Project will reconstruct Broadway from Pine Street to Iris Avenue into concrete pavement, upgrade the private and public utilities and complete some sidewalk, transit stop and streetscape enhancements.
Use Details:
- The staging area at North Boulder Park will provide storage of construction equipment and materials for this major local, state, and federally-funded transportation improvement project.
- All other areas of North Boulder Park will remain open for customary park activities, special events and Nordic skiing (conditions permitting), unless otherwise posted.
- The city's contractor evaluated other potential private and public properties for this critical need, however no other sites were deemed viable given site requirements and duration of project.
- Park staff will work closely with construction contractor to minimize impacts to park users - as well as ensuring complete park restoration upon conclusion of project.
