General Court Information
Some violations require an appearance in court, while others may be resolved by paying a fine instead of appearing. Many traffic violations are payable prior to court, but most criminal violations require an appearance in court before a judge. Fines may be paid from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Municipal Court Violations Bureau. Our office is closed for staff meetings the second Friday of each month from 8:00a.m. to 1:00p.m. We accept cash, checks, money orders, Visa or MasterCard. Our address and phone numbers are listed on the contact link below. This court does not handle drinking and driving, no proof of insurance, theft, domestic violence or drug possession offenses. These tickets are written into the County and District combined court. A County or District Court summons may be blue, white or yellow and written by a state patrol officer, a Deputy Sheriff, or Boulder Police officer. For these tickets contact the Boulder County Court at (303) 441-3750. Their website address is: www.co.boulder.co.us/da/court.htm. To view the maximum penalties for a traffic infraction click here and go to section 7-2-4. Some of the more serious traffic tickets are offenses and carry higher penalties. For a listing of some common traffic offenses please click on the link below. To view the maximum penalties for a general offense click here and go to section 5-2-4. For all other violations, look up the title and section number found in the red box on your ticket in the Boulder Revised Code. (The format for the BRC Section No. is Title-Chapter-Section.)
