 About PACE

The PACE program is a voluntary, non-regulatory program which offers free pollution prevention education and technical assistance to Boulder County businesses. PACE is a partnership of local governments and businesses to encourage and recognize environmental achievement.

Nearly 300 (20%) businesses and municipal operations across Boulder County are PACE-certified.

  • In the City of Boulder there are 209 (50%) PACE-certified businesses and municipal operations.
  • In the City of Longmont there are 53 (15%) PACE-certified businesses and municipal operations.
 Pharmaceutical Drive-up and Drop-off

PACE is partnering with the city of Boulder and Boulder Community Hospital to host a pharmaceutical collection event on Saturday, May 8, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Boulder Foothills Hospital - 4747 Arapahoe Avenue. The public is invited to drive-up and drop-off their expired, excess, and unwanted medications for proper disposal.

Recent studies indicate that medications flushed down the toiler or drain could be having an adverse impact on streams, the environment, fish and aquatic life. Your local wastewater treatment plant can't remove many of these compounds so they're released into our streams. Some of these compounds have even been found in drinking water supplies.

For information on proper disposal of medications and syringes, please visit:

 Green Map

It's now easier for Boulder County residents and visitors to make their dollars count by choosing a sustainable business. PACE has launched an interactive, online map to help people identify the businesses that are making green decisions. The online map allows people to search for PACE-certified businesses by city, type of business, and business name.

  PACE Allies
Recent News & Events

For the past several years, PACE has pondered ways to work with various service providers such as power washers, painters, carpet and blind cleaners, and landscape maintenance services. These are businesses that do not fit the traditional PACE model in that they are not located in a fixed facility with water and energy meters of their own, or a specific pollutant of concern. However, traditional PACE businesses often rely on these services providers, and the manner in which these providers operate can greatly affect the businesses’ ability to meet their goals for environmental achievement. With this in mind, PACE is pleased to unveil its PACE Allies program for Surface Cleaners and Power Washers Program.

When PACE talks with a business about the proper ways to wash their building’s exterior, we know that these functions are typically subcontracted. The PACE Allies program will allow PACE staff to provide businesses with a list of service providers that have demonstrated an understanding, willingness and ability to follow practices that minimize the environmental impacts of these activities.

If your business is interested in becoming a PACE Ally, just complete the following steps:

  • Review the PACE Best Management Practices (BMPs) training by clicking on the logo below
  • Pass the test following the training to demonstrate an understanding of the BMPs
  • Provide PACE with three upcoming dates and locations where they will be working. PACE will select one of the dates to on which to observe their work unannounced.
  • If the service provider is properly implementing the BMPs, they will be asked to sign a pledge stating that they will consistently adhere to the BMPs.

PACE will follow-up with each Ally annually to ensure that they still properly implementing the BMPs and to provide them with any new BMPs or information on emerging technologies. PACE will make the list of Allies available to all of the businesses with which PACE works, regardless of their certification status. The list of Allies will also be posted on the PACE website.
