Stormwater runoff from municipal operations can affect water quality and quantity. These activities range from the storage and handling of harmful chemicals to the maintenance of municipal properties, vehicles, roads, parks, and storm sewer systems. Activities such as integrated pest management, water conservation, recycling, erosion control, proper storage of materials, repair of equipment, and education programs can prove to be very effective in addressing these pollutant sources.
The Keep it Clean Partnership (KICP)
program contracts with the Partners for a Clean Environment (PACE) Program to implement a stormwater certification and compliance program for municipal operations within the Keep It Clean Partnership communities (Boulder, Boulder County, Erie, Longmont, Louisville, and Superior). PACE has developed stormwater pollution prevention certification criteria. Criteria include implementation of both structural and non-structural BMPs for various municipal operations. The BMP library, below, addresses the identified potential pollution sources within municipal operations. The Resource Sheets outline the Best Management Practices to be implemented for compliance or PACE Certification. The Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) include procedures for stormwater pollution prevention and each municipality’s customized operating procedures.
