Trailhead Leash Program
What is the Trailhead Leash Program? The Trailhead Leash Program requires dog guardians to leash their dogs upon exiting their vehicle at all OSMP trailheads, and in the area of the trailheads. Markers have been placed along the trails which indicate when the dog may be managed under voice and sight control, providing the dog displays a green tag from the voice and sight control program. Why was this program implemented? The City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks department wants to help you and your dog stay safe and reduce possible incidents at the trailhead and on the trails. This program was designed to keep you, your dog and other visitors to our trails safe and to help make everyone’s outdoor experience as enjoyable as possible. The Trailhead Leash Program, called for in the Visitor Master Plan (VMP), started as a pilot program in 2005 at five trailheads: Chautauqua, Doudy Draw, Dry Creek, Marshall Mesa, and Sanitas. In the summer of 2008, the program was expanded to include all trailheads within the OSMP system. Where can I find more information?Below are maps of areas around the trailheads where dogs must be leashed. Dog guardians can also find area descriptions and other information on our dog regulation maps page.
