The Local Environmental Action Division (LEAD) provides leadership to achieve Boulder’s goals of sustainability and environmental quality. Our mission is to prevent pollution, reduce resource consumption and promote environmentally sustainable practices. We develop city policy, offer educational programs and partner with citizens, businesses, and other organizations to protect Boulder's environment.

  • The Residential ClimateSmart Loan program has been put on hold - click here for more information 
  • All of the City of Boulder facilities now have the infrastructure to collect recyclables and compostables to work towards becoming a zero waste community.
  • On August 4, 2010 Boulder City Council opted to let the 20-year Xcel franchise expire.  Voters will have the option to impose a 5-year tax to replace the $4 million of revenue the City has received from the Xcel franchise.  You can find more information on Boulder's Energy Future here.

  • Sept. 4-6, 2010:  Look for LEAD staff at the Hometown Fair for chances to make environmentally-friendly products and win free stuff.
  • Sept. 19, 2010:  City of Boulder is sponsoring the Boulder Green Streets event.
  • Oct. 10, 2010:  Boulder's Neighborhood Energy Sweep and a "Make Your Own Petroleum-Free Products" workshop will take place as part of Boulder 350's Global Work Party on 10/10/10.
