Information TechnologyDepartment MissionWe leverage technology to improve city services. The City of Boulder recognizes the vital role that the innovative use of information technology plays in fulfilling its mission and goals. It is a major factor in enabling City staff to meet ever-changing demands for service in the face of decreasing revenues. Technology innovation is an essential investment that, over time, can enhance the capacity of the organization. Utilizing technology to increase productivity and efficiency of all City departments in a time of shrinking resources is a clear necessity. Delivering services in cost-effective ways that meet the changing needs and preferences of Boulder residents is critical. Information technologies offer essential tools for increasing City productivity, improving decision-making with more complete and timely information and addressing new approaches to service delivery. The City’s Information Technology (IT) Department works in partnership with other City departments to plan and implement information technology strategies and value-added solutions. The IT Department has the dual roles of supporting City departments in delivering services to city residents and other clients, and of looking beyond the needs of today to ensure that the technology infrastructure is in place to support future applications and tools when needed. Key to this is management of the City’s technical environment, including technical standards and policies, the IT infrastructure, and corporate data and information.
