What is the Transportation Master Plan?

Adopted in 1989, the Transportation Master Plan (TMP) is the city's blueprint for creating safe, convenient and sustainable transportation options that increase accessibility and meet the need of the community.

We're updating  the TMP to articulate and reflect the community’s goals and vision for travel in Boulder.

Here’s what we want to accomplish:

  • Provide a safe and easy-to-use transportation system;
  • Provide and promote convenient travel options that increase accessibility;
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and forward the city sustainability and climate commitment goals;
  • Leverage regional partnerships to provide an array of multi-modal connections.

How do we accomplish this?
By advancing the right mix and inter-relationship between:

  • Complete Streets (Bike + Transit);
  •  Funding  (TMF effort);
  • Regional Travel;
  • Transportation Demand Management; and
  • Sustainability Integration.

This TMP Update is also an integrated effort to consider how the transportation system can contribute to livability, city sustainability efforts and greenhouse gas reductions.  Coordinating with other citywide projects and programs, this update will ensure that our transportation planning efforts compliment the city ecosystem as a whole.

The Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) is taking a prominent and ongoing role in a strategic and sequential update process for the TMP.
