Emergency Services

Under the direction of the Deputy Chief, the Emergency Services division provides emergency response to fires, natural and man-made disasters, hazardous releases, rescue situations and medical emergencies within the City of Boulder.

Staffing:The Emergency Services Division is comprised of 95 Firefighter/EMTs including captains, lieutenants, engineers, and firefighters. These personnel are assigned to one of three 24-hour shifts each supervised by a Battalion Chief.

The Emergency Services division has three teams of firefighters with advanced specialty training:

Dive Rescue Training

Dive Team:
The 12-member Dive Team has year-round capabilities for all water related incidents including: open water dive rescue and recovery, ice rescue, ice diving and swift water rescue and recovery.

Overland Fire

Wildland Team: This team was established in 1992 to respond to wildfire incidents. The 12-member team responds to local as well as regional wildland fires.



Hazardous Materials Training
Hazardous Materials Team: This team is comprised of 12 members who respond to the release or spill of hazardous materials locally and in the county. The team is also a part of the Boulder County Hazardous Materials Team which responds to larger releases.
