Youth Opportunities Advisory Board (YOAB)

The Youth Opportunities Advisory Board (YOAB) is comprised of 16 City of Boulder resident high school students, ages 14 to 18.  YOAB promotes the youth voice in the community, provides opportunities for city youth, and advises the municipal government on youth-related policies and issues.  Board members represent many aspects of Boulder’s youth community, are appointed by the City Manager and serve one-year renewable terms.

YOAB board members:
•    Help allocate approximately $130,000 annually to local youth programs through competitive grant processes
•    Advise City Council, city departments, and local agencies on youth-related issues
•    Implement community projects to help address youth needs
•    Celebrate outstanding youth volunteers
•    Promote the youth voice in Boulder
•    Plan and run their own meetings
•    YOAB’s Community Projects

FAAB
The Fabulous Adult Assistance Board (FAAB) is a group of adult volunteers who support YOAB members.  
Current FAAB members are Carmen Reina-Nelson, Joan Sherman, Miriam McGilvray, Will Burger, Will Murray.

The Application Process
Each spring current 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th graders who live in the City of Boulder (including most of Gunbarrel) and are interested in joining YOAB for the next school year are encouraged to apply.  No previous leadership experience is necessary.  Applications are typically available just after Spring Break and are due in early April.  Please check back here for an application at that time.

A subcommittee of current YOAB members will review the applications and interview applicants.  New members will be invited to join based on their potential to positively contribute to the board’s work and their capacity to represent the diversity of Boulder’s youth community.
