City of Boulder outline recreation center and pool maintenance and facility updates for remaining summer season and upcoming fall seasons.

Every year Boulder Parks and Recreation (BPR) closes each of its recreation centers for one week to complete a deep cleaning, make short-term maintenance and/or install new equipment.

The South Boulder Recreation Center (SBRC) is currently undergoing extended maintenance and plans to reopen Tuesday, September 2. The SBRC pool is tentatively scheduled to reopen in October.

The scheduled North Boulder Recreation Center (NBRC) annual maintenance shutdown occurs Saturday, August 9 – Sunday, August 17 and reopening Monday, August 18. Facility-wide maintenance includes:

  • Heat exchanger replacement to improve hot tub temperature

  • Hot tub retiling and grouting

  • Complete rebuild of sauna components to improve functionality

  • Replacement and update of several pieces of cardio equipment

Additional summer and fall operational facility updates:

  • Spruce Pool (2102 Spruce St) will close for the season on Sunday, August 17.

  • The Scott Carpenter leisure pool operates weekends only starting Wednesday, August 13.

    • To accommodate additional swimmers from Spruce Pool, the lap pool schedule will include two combined lanes for adult open swim and water walking in addition to lap lanes designated for slow, medium and fast swimmers starting August 18, while in long-course configuration.

    • The lap pool will transition to short course only starting Friday, August 29. Normal shoulder season operating hours 11:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. will begin Tuesday, Sept. 2 and the pool will remain open through September, weather/staffing permitting.

Community members are encouraged to explore activities and recreational opportunities at the neighboring recreation centers and parks including the Boulder Reservoir.
