The City of Boulder’s Historic Preservation Plan was accepted in 2013 and updated in 2019. It has helped the Historic Preservation program to establish priorities and informs the annual work plan. The plan was funded by a Certified Local Government (CLG) grant, which was used to hire a consultant, HistoryMatters. The consultant assessed the program, helped establish its goals and objectives, and recommended strategies to achieve them.

Goals to Guide the Historic Preservation Plan

  • Ensure the protection of Boulder's significant historic, architectural, and environmental resources;

  • Actively engage the community in historic preservation efforts;

  • Make review processes clear, predictable and objective;

  • Continue leadership in historic preservation and environmental sustainability; and

  • Encourage preservation of historic resources.
